I first photographed Remarkable Rocks many years ago, in the days of film. But today’s digital cameras, with their ultra-sensitive sensors, actually see better in low light than the human eye. So when we were invited to Kangaroo Island to stay with friends, I was keen to explore more of the island’s natural treasures and try a night shot of Remarkable Rocks. This rock formation in the foreground has always fascinated me – it’s clearly the work of a master sculptor. Sea mist was rolling in over the cliffs and the scene was illuminated by the full moon, without any artificial light. Away in the distance, you can see Cape de Couedic Lighthouse. Remarkable Rocks are aptly named – and they are especially remarkable at night. Just a little light from the moon makes for an intriguing picture that goes beyond what the eye can see.
