In late 2019, the east coast of Australia was being ravaged by some of the worst bushfires we have ever seen. There was controversy over whether the fireworks should go ahead, due to the suffering of people who had lost loved ones and property through the fires. In the end, it was decided that life must go on. Sydney Harbour is a spectacular location for a fireworks display and many people had come from far and wide in expectation of this extravagant event. I feel it was important to hold the fireworks as planned, to show the resilience of the Australian character. For though we may be suffering hardship, we can still pause to celebrate the great nation we live in. In many ways, the celebration provided a welcome distraction from the still-unfolding tragedy of the fires
